Art leasing is a financially advantageous way to enhance the value of your environment by incorporating significant works of art into your space. Real estate developers, corporations, hospitality groups and investors, our clients, have a common vision that the art creates iconic spaces that inspire all who pass through.
HOW DOES IT WORK
RULER strongly believe if a gallery or artist won’t allow one the opportunity to ‘try before buying’, then we advise against buying that specific artist. Art is meant to be enjoyed and is an expensive purchase that isn’t always an instant connection. That’s why RULER offers collectors the opportunity to “stage” art, or live with it for a while, before purchasing.
If you have any reservations, you should be able to keep it up for a few days and then determine how you feel about it.
Whether you’re in the market for a masterpiece or a last minute addition to a room, you have options besides buying and committing to a work long term. RULER offers solutions for adding color to office lobbies, placing impressive sculptures outside new real estate developments, and making blank living room walls finally feel complete. With flexible financing and curatorial expertise, these new outfits are making works by big-name artists and up-and-comers available for rent to individuals and businesses.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR COLLECTORS
Affordability varies greatly from company to company. For example, a firm called ArtMgt allows collectors to lease entry level artworks for as little as $50 per month. Half of each art rental payment becomes a credit toward buying that work, or any other, from the company. If you’re looking for something specific, we allow you to commission and lease new, unique works from the artists on their roster.
WORKS AVAILABLE
RULER posts its inventory online. On our website, you can browse images of works with accompanying prices for leasing and purchasing. We have an unparalleled selection of paintings, photography, sculpture, and drawings by artists from around the world at a wide range of prices to suit all budgets and projects. There’s a transparency here that’s often difficult to find within the art market. Works range from bright wood, acrylic, oil, and enamel paint sculptures to colorful photographic prints. The site allows searches by subject, media, dimensions, colors, tones, availability, and price range.
NO ADVISORY FEES
Our personalized art advisory service gives you access to your own expert curator, free of charge.
GLOBAL SHIPPING
We handle all aspects of international shipping and customs for a completely hassle-free delivery. We have included the price of shipping within the artwork price at the checkout. What you see is what you pay.
FINANCING
The financing of our art lease can be structured in a variety of ways. For specific artworks we require a deposit of two monthly payments for each leased work (and the minimum terms for a lease and a cleared rental are three months and one month, respectively). Meanwhile, RULER will accept several payments for important artworks above $20,000.
We are willing to breaks down the financing in a manner more typical of bankers and real estate salesmen than of anyone else in the art world. Given the value of the collection you’re leasing, we’ll offer a yearly rate, a flexible duration, a purchase premium, and a deposit (dependent on their analysis of risk and market liquidity).
Additional costs include installation, maintenance, and insurance.
Another reason to lease art for a business-related activity? It could be tax deductible. Take this into account as you calculate the price of your project.
We work within all segments of the art market ranging from Old Masters to Contemporary Art. Liquidity of the art being a main criteria.
We currently either buy art clients wish to lease or art they already own and want to finance.
With a sale-leaseback the lessee maintains possession in most cases. With an art loan, RULER will arrange for the work to be stored at an agreed upon location.
We offer single digit rates. The rates are derived from the collection’s fair market value and liquidity.
A sale-leaseback is usually 1 to 2 years. However, the client may terminate it at any time during the lease through the buyout option. An art secured loan is typically 3 months to 2 years.
Insurance coverage is arranged by us and the cost is added to the clients expenses.
Our clients are private collectors, art dealers, art investors, corporations, hospitality groups and real estate developers.
We are located in New York City but our services are offered globally.
